If you dream of having a slice of uninterrupted time to focus on your writing, a one-day retreat in the heart of Suffolk is the perfect antidote.

Set in the gorgeous St John's Centre, in the beautiful town of Bury St Edmunds, you will receive as much tea and coffee as you can drink, snacks, cake and, most importantly, space to write.

Author, book coach and publisher, Cara Thurlbourn, will also be on hand throughout the day for one-on-one sessions if you'd like to discuss your writing.

What happens at a one-day retreat?

We want you to use the time however best fits your goals for the day, so our one-day retreats are not guided. However,

Cara is available to answer any questions you might have. She has ten years' experience in both traditional publishing and self-publishing, so you are welcome to pick her brains or ask for advice at any point in the day. As an author herself, Cara knows how difficult it is to find time to write, so her goal in setting up Suffolk Writing Retreats is to simply facilitate your creativity and give you a distraction-free space in which to focus.

Itinerary

The day will start at 9.30am with coffee and introductions. Then from 9.45am–4.00pm the time is entirely your own. Tea and coffee will be available all day and you're welcome to come and go as you please.

Food & Drink

Your ticket includes unlimited tea and coffee, as well as snacks and cake, but we decided that as we're in the centre of Bury St Edmunds and surrounded by plenty of cafes and shops, it would be better for everyone if we reduced the price of our tickets and allowed you to forage for your own lunch.

Previously, tickets were £55 and included lunch, but they're now £38. We hope you'll agree that's a worthwhile saving.

Location & facilities

The St Johns Centre in Bury St Edmunds really is a beautiful building. It's walking distance from an all-day carpark, the Bury St Edmunds Library, and central shops. But it's also a little oasis of calm and quiet. It's light, airy, and you can see the church spire from the windows. Perfect for getting the creative juices flowing!

We will set up writing desks, a separate area for coffee and chatting, there are power points for laptops and there is also a WiFi connection.
